We often design bespoke solutions to address specific problems. For example, our client needed a drop-in maintenance access platform that fits into a compact space while complying with AS1657 Fixed platform and ladders. In essence, a “drop-in access platform” refers to a portable platform designed to be easily “dropped in” to a specific location on a machine or structure. Moreover, it provides temporary access for maintenance, repairs, or inspections, typically used in industrial settings like heavy machinery or large vehicles. Consequently, accessing certain areas might be difficult without a dedicated platform that can be quickly positioned and secured.
Drop in maintenance access platform attributes:
Specific design:
First and foremost, regarding the specific design, the exact dimensions and access points of the equipment they are intended for are used to custom-make these drop-in maintenance access platforms. Often, they include features like pins or brackets to securely lock them in place.
Easy installation:
Furthermore, the “drop-in” feature allows for quick positioning and securing without needing extensive setup or dismantling. This enables efficient access during maintenance tasks.
Safety features:
Additionally, safety features like handrails, toeboards, and sometimes safety gates are included to prevent falls, just like any access platform.
Applications:
Lastly, these platforms are commonly used for accessing hard-to-reach areas for maintenance or repairs.
This drop platform provides access to a wedge section of tank steelwork during maintenance. Workers lower the platform into place and secure it with four bolts.

They access the platform through the gate and ladder system to undo the wedge bolts.

After leaving the platform and removing the wedge with an overhead crane, they lift the platform with a 3-leg chain using the three lifting lugs.
